Ben Kreukniet & Vincent De Belleval CA/NL
Experimental artists Ben Kreukniet(Netherlands) and Vincent De Belleval (Canada)
Manifolds, commissioned for MUTEK.MX Edition 15
For the celebration of XV years, artists Ben Kreukniet and Vincent De Belleval return as an essential duo from the United Visual Artists platform which has allowed them to perform experimental work and to develop their own and commissioned pieces. Kreukniet and De Belleval have a particular sensitivity for the development of multisensory settings which have prevailed in institutional spaces like The Barbican (UK) as they have in niche festivals like Day For Night (US). After a season focused on solo projects, including tours with artists like Amnesia Scanner and Massive Attack, Kreukniet and De Belleval combine all their creativity into programming, robotics, and hardware to transform Factory Room A into a grand architectural instrument.
Manifolds is an installation that takes up the entire space of the Factory for the generation of audiovisual patterns. These then stimulate the connection between the individual and the collective experience within this specific space. The patterns will continue to evolve over the course of the festival, creating a progressive ambience that alters visitors’ geometric and sensory perception, and all through the application of hardware.
