Compact and precise, the auditory repertoire of Lanark Artefax is always floating in the ether. From the rougher, harder sounds of breakbeat or techno, things quickly dissolve and ultimately transform to warm, nearly emotive atmospherics and gesture, and emanate IDM into a pure liquid state. Listeners get an unexpected extreme entry into contemporary electronics. Whether in the brevity of the Whities 011 EP or in his live explorations as a DJ, Lanark Artefax balances disruption with a surgical precision: rhythmic deconstruction, dissonance, and microtones to generate work that’s almost cinematographic. An early education in classical piano and composition is mixed with a passion for literature and narrative reinvention, and all through sound. Having earned a prominent place in the festival circuit, Lanark Artefax regularly presents a stunning A/V performance. He also enjoys the backing of legends like Lee Gamble, who released Lanark on his own label, Aphex Twin, who includes it in his own DJ sets, and Björk, for whom Lanark will be opening several shows on her summer tour.
