Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement US/FR
Dominick Fernow (Prurient/Vatican Shadow) Live performance feat. Philippe Hallais aka Low Jack
Dark ambient, dub techno, soundscapes
Ambient Black Magic (Hospital Productions, 2017)
It’s not all laughter and fun and Dominick Fernow knows it. His work as Prurient and Vatican Shadow has meant immersion without return into the darker zones of existence. Here, he’s created sounds to exorcise demons and to sweat through bad trips. Techno, noise and industrial are filtered through a Machiavellian vision, honest and raw, and this goes beyond mere reference to build an original legacy that contributes to the very balance of yin/yang. It satisfies even our violent and dark desire, have been given play within a visceral music. In 2011, Fernow began to explore sound landscapes and dark ambient as Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement (RSE), a project under which he published several cassettes compiled in the Hospital Productions box set, Water Witches. He founded the label in 2006 to release limited editions, mainly on cassette tapes of his own and related projects such as those by Merzbow and Godflesh. In 2017, with the release of the Ambient Black Magic LP (Hospital Productions), RSE debuted on stage, with Silent Servant and Low Jack accompanying Fernow during live performances. A hypnotic and progressive narrative is advanced under the pulsing artificial atmosphere of Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement, among the meandering samples from life in the Papua New Guinea rainforest. Like a trip always undertaken at night, RSE feeds a constant premonition, transforming into sound the dark, sharp forces that vibrate in the still-unexplored corners of the natural world.
