Robin Fox is the master of synesthesia. Having grown up surrounded by computers and musical instruments, his environment made him amphibious as an artist, capable of creating from scratch his own audio and lighting artifacts, and of then transferring his audiovisual experiments to all types of performance disciplines and interactive platforms. His background includes experimental electronic recordings as a solo artist and in collaboration with Anthony Pateras. He’s also undertaken urban installations (among them, an enormous theremin). Fox has concerned on modular composition and worj with lases and sound for performance. This has led to performances in more than 50 cities, mainly with a series of compositions/performances that explore the possibilities of mechanically induced synesthesia, and Double Vision, alongside Uwe Schmidt
Single origin is the third installment in a series of works exploring the possibilities of combining laser and sound to create a mechanical effect similar to synesthesia. Unlike Monochrome (2004) and RGB Laser (2013), the first installments in the series, Single Origin expands the geometry of sound to new terrain, using a single laser beam through an ranging from Noise to Techno. A fascinating piece, it can be experimented the same un a gallery as in a festival. Before arriving at Edition 15 of MUTEK.MX, the piece was presented at the Berlin Atonal and MUTEK Montreal.
