Posh Isolation and Northern Electronics, based respectively in Copenhagen and Stockholm, are two poles of a prolific collective of artists. Inspired by Nordic romanticism and the post-internet, they’re renewing the possibilities of the darkest spectrum of electronic music. In just a few years Jonas Rönnberg and Melina Åkerman, two of the labels’ most prominent artists, have taken their places within the circuit of electronic experimentation at festivals, clubs, and galleries, both in their solo projects (as Varg and AnnaMelina) as well as in their previous collaborations for the series Nordic Flora by Varg and on the duo’s EP, Welcoming Elegance, which gave rise to Flora.
Flora is a convergence of Varg’s more pop sensibilities, oriented as it is toward techno and industrial. From AnnaMelina, already the creator of many dreamy ambient vocals, we get tracks in which trap and slow bass evaporate into whispers dedicated mainly to heartbreak, and beats that invite a gentle melting. “Impatience,” a singular introduction, is a nebulous ballad fusing the very best of trap and synthpop.
