Since the release of Vertical (Cassauna, 2014) Caterina Barbieri has cultivated a cult audience. In 2019 we find her at full blast, headlining cutting-edge music festivals with one of the most impressive live sets full of modular synthesizers in recent years. When performed live, Ecstatic Computation (Editions Mego, 2019), translates into a deep sound experience, architectural, corporal and emotional, which will be experienced in its full potential in the context of MUTEK MX. Don’t miss out.
With a classical guitar and electroacoustic composition background, Caterina has developed a sound research and practice inspired by the physical and psychological effects of pattern-based music and the polyphonic and polyrhythmic potential of modular sequencers. Her compositions establish a dialogue with minimalism and her aesthetic is a breath of fresh air for sequential electronics, echoing Giallo-era soundtracks and the most cosmic side of new age. With her current live set, Caterina seeks to ignite temporary hallucinations and a state of ecstasy and contemplation through complex sequencing techniques and creative computing.
