AVANT MUTEK IN GIRONA PRESENTED BY JÄGERMUSIC

Spanish electronic artists in the spotlight.

Coming just one week before the festival in Barcelona, the city of Girona again opens its gates to MUTEK on March 4, to welcome a program focussed on leading lights of the Spanish and Catalan electronic scene. Taking place at the Auditori de la Mercè, a significant historical building in the heart of the city, the lineup features artists jointly curated from the Jägermusic roster, and marks the second year MUTEK and Jägermeister have teamed up to present homegrown talents.

A new addition to the label, HUIAS  are a Cantabrian group cross-hatching new generation R&B with contemporary electronic flourishes. Two rising forces in Catalonia’s musical landscape; SAU POLER, whose profile is also advancing internationally on the strength of his melodic and groove-adept productions — and OLDE GODS who also know how to balance deft rhythm programming with complex feels and narrative, represent the cultural texture and fibre of Barcelona’s current moment.

MXPORT Y EL AÑO DUAL MÉXICO-ALEMANIA

Sorry, this entry is only available in European Spanish. For the sake of viewer convenience, the content is shown below in the alternative language. You may click the link to switch the active language.

Launching a calendar year filled with expanded activities, while adapting to the ever evolving landscape of contemporary electronic and digital arts, this year’s edition offers a more compact and concentrated experience of new forms and encounters for its increasingly diverse and discerning public. As has come to be expected from its programming, MUTEK creates a context for unusual bookings, special presentations and unique experiences in a city known for an abundance of options. Distinguishing itself with lineups built to showcase multiple performances at a time, creating trajectories that simultaneously compliment and enhance a full range of artistry, this year promises another uncommon program that mixes critically acclaimed international acts with Spanish, Catalan and digital talent emanating from Québec, where MUTEK is headquartered.

With more names and details still to come, here is the first wave of artist confirmations:

EXPANDING THE SCOPE
DIGI_LAB BY MAZDA: FEBRUARY 11 & 25, MARCH 10
Like a treasure trail leading up to the festival, MUTEK.ES extends its operations and presence with a series of events in partnership with Mazda at their new space, under the banner DIGI_LAB. Concerned with various manifestations and intersections between technology and visual art, emphasizing new media, installations and audiovisual works, the series launches February 11 with the coordinated domestic lighting extravaganza (from the literally named) MUSIC FOR LAMPS. On February 25 it’s a mesmerizing presentation of NICOLAS BERNIER’S frequencies project, and March 10 during the festival, MINUIT UNE´s laser-guided installation and live show Pyr to Pyr (featuring a member of 1024 Architecture) takes over the venue.

The Mazda Space will also act as the festival’s mission control center, hosting daytime activities, performances and exhibitions.

MUTEK.MX 2016 WRAP UP

Web-FotoLinea-WrapUp

The thirteenth edition of MUTEK.MX was one the largest and most immersive in its history with over twenty programs in ten different locations around Mexico City. MUTEK.MX redesigned the experience of an electronic music festival with a proposal that touches on the different aspects of digital creativity by means of avant-garde music, technological innovation, dancing spaces, and contemplation; another side of it were its unforgettable performances and apps designed to experiment virtual reality.

Around 67 artists, 14 national and international creators, and more than 23,000 registered attendants (both local and from the whole globe) shared this unique experience. During six days, the festival showed the newest manifestations of digital technology. This year, MUTEK.MX distinguished itself for experiencing the 3D audio of INTORNO LABS, as well as the VR SALON; these were not just some showings, but rather practical experiences that shaped new lines in the recent history of audiovisual performances.

The successful acts of HIROAKI UMEDA, RICHIE HAWTIN, NICOLA CRUZ, HOLLY HERNDON, MURCOF, PEDER MANNERFELT, and THE FIELD set the standard for the next six days; the different spaces, atmospheres, and contexts were designed to broadcast sensations, rhythms, and euphoria. Every single event in the program served as the perfect vessel to present the most exciting sets of current national and international electronic music; these had an impact on what surely will inspire interaction further than contemplation.

The MUSICMAKERS HACKLAB as well as the workshops, hardware and software presentations for musical production provided the tools, techniques, and collaboration of the different aspects of digital creativity. Without a single doubt, MUTEK.MX is a platform for the development of new ideas and conversations surrounding new technologies. The MUTEK experience reached new places thanks to its partnership with 12 institutions, 24 collaborators, 20 media partners, and 12 restaurants.

The closing event, at the front terrace of MUSEO TAMAYO, evoked not only the open-space electronic picnics of MUTEK Montreal, but also acquired a new meaning in Mexico City, where food trucks, record selling, families, pets and a spirit of celebration gathered around; this reunion created an atmosphere of intense interaction between the attenders and the artists, making it one of the most emotive closing ceremonies in the history of the festival.

We are very excited about the outcome and the great response from both artists and festival goers. With this in mind, MUTEK.MX recharges batteries and starts planning for its next edition. So long!

For Gorbachev, who is more than a diplomat in the international music scene, good vibes are essential in his live presentations. What he calls #DAYTIMERAVING is an attitude rather than a specific time of the day. This philosophy led him to create a young, disinhibited techno style that claimed Matias Aguayo’s attention for his label Comeme. Dance music without frontiers aiming for total debauchery.
