Playlist + Gallery: First Wave of Confirmed Artists Edition 16

Discover all the innovative sound sensations and hybrids between creativity and technology that are waiting for us throughout one whole week

As a preview of the multisensory oasis that we have prepared for our 16th Edition, we are pleased to present the First Wave of Confirmed Artists: this is just a part of the wide range of sound sensations and innovative hybrids between creativity and technology that are waiting for us throughout the week of MUTEK MX. With the surprises that come with the selection of new proposals and emerging artists, this is already shaping up to be a historical edition with the stellar performances of Tim Hecker & The Konoyo Ensemble, Murcof with visuals by Jimmy Lakatos, the Latin American debuts of Kelly Moran Grand Piano A/V and of Circle Of Live with Dorisburg, Frank Wiedemann (Âme live), Mathew Jonson & Sebastian Mullaert together for live jam collaborations, improvisation and solo explorations all night long, the Mexico premier of King Midas Sound, and the much-anticipated return of Fennesz.

The Passport and Nocturne Pass are available through Boletia.
Get your Passport and Nocturne Pass here.

Here, you may listen to our official playlist to immerse yourself in the sonorous dimension of Edition 16, a succession of tracks that incite both in-depth listening with artists such as Fennesz, Murcof, King Midas Sound, and Tim Hecker & The Konoyo Ensemble, and intense dancing caused by the rhythmic overstimulation of Overmono, Batu and Deena Abdelwahed. Dig in!

And of course, this November a series of installations, immersive experiences and A/V performances are coming to Mexico City, serving up a multisensory banquet for the festival’s audience and a source of inspiration for creative people looking for new intersections between technology, space and imagination:

The thirteenth edition of MUTEK.MX was one the largest and most immersive in its history with over twenty programs in ten different locations around Mexico City. MUTEK.MX redesigned the experience of an electronic music festival with a proposal that touches on the different aspects of digital creativity by means of avant-garde music, technological innovation, dancing spaces, and contemplation; another side of it were its unforgettable performances and apps designed to experiment virtual reality.

Around 67 artists, 14 national and international creators, and more than 23,000 registered attendants (both local and from the whole globe) shared this unique experience. During six days, the festival showed the newest manifestations of digital technology. This year, MUTEK.MX distinguished itself for experiencing the 3D audio of INTORNO LABS, as well as the VR SALON; these were not just some showings, but rather practical experiences that shaped new lines in the recent history of audiovisual performances.

The successful acts of HIROAKI UMEDA, RICHIE HAWTIN, NICOLA CRUZ, HOLLY HERNDON, MURCOF, PEDER MANNERFELT, and THE FIELD set the standard for the next six days; the different spaces, atmospheres, and contexts were designed to broadcast sensations, rhythms, and euphoria. Every single event in the program served as the perfect vessel to present the most exciting sets of current national and international electronic music; these had an impact on what surely will inspire interaction further than contemplation.

The MUSICMAKERS HACKLAB as well as the workshops, hardware and software presentations for musical production provided the tools, techniques, and collaboration of the different aspects of digital creativity. Without a single doubt, MUTEK.MX is a platform for the development of new ideas and conversations surrounding new technologies. The MUTEK experience reached new places thanks to its partnership with 12 institutions, 24 collaborators, 20 media partners, and 12 restaurants.

The closing event, at the front terrace of MUSEO TAMAYO, evoked not only the open-space electronic picnics of MUTEK Montreal, but also acquired a new meaning in Mexico City, where food trucks, record selling, families, pets and a spirit of celebration gathered around; this reunion created an atmosphere of intense interaction between the attenders and the artists, making it one of the most emotive closing ceremonies in the history of the festival.

We are very excited about the outcome and the great response from both artists and festival goers. With this in mind, MUTEK.MX recharges batteries and starts planning for its next edition. So long!

Web-fotolinea-fase2

MUTEK Mexico unleashes a second wave of artists for its 13th edition, taking place October 19 to 23 at unique locations around Mexico City. These latest names from both the international circuit and the rich and ascendant local and Latin American scene, reflect the festival’s dedication to showcasing a wide and eclectic range of contemporary electronic music and digital arts practices. Mixing unique live performances across genres of music, sound and visual arts with technology — including new forms of research and re-imaginings of interactive and interface-based works, along with architectural interventions and the emerging perspectives offered by virtual reality — the festival continues its curatorial mission to both cultivate and inspire its savvy and rapidly expanding audience.

The program continues to deepen its global offerings with the inclusion of exclusive performances from:

RICHIE HAWTIN (CA) / µ-ZIQ (UK) / SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER (UK) / RROSE (US) / JOHN TEJADA (US) / ACRONYM (SE) / MYRIAM BLEAU (QC) / MICHELA PELUSIO & GLENN VERVLIET (IT/BE) / MICROFEEL (ES)

This edition’s campaign also taps into themes concerned with October’s lunar activity in Mexico — namely the peculiarities of the moon’s position in the sky in this part of the world, as it appears eerily larger and more prominent.

With more names still to be added, here is the current lineup:

AAAA (MX) / ACRONYM (SE) / AÏSHA DEVI (CH) / ALIAS616 (MX) / BEGUN (ES) / CYANÉ (MX) / DAMAJA RAINBOW (MX) / DRIFTMACHINE (DE) / GASPAR PERALTA (MX) / HIROAKI UMEDA (JP) / HOLLY HERNDON (US) / IMAABS (CL) / JAN JELINEK & MASAYOSHI FUJITA (DE/JP) / JLIN (US) / JOHN TEJADA (US) / KLARA LEWIS (SE) / ME & MYSELF (MX) / MICHELA PELUSIO & GLENN VERVLIET (IT/BE) / MICROFEEL (ES) / MURCOF (MX) / MYRIAM BLEAU (QC) / NICOLA CRUZ & FIDEL ELJURI (EC) / PEDER MANNERFELT (SE) / POWELL (UK) / RABIT (US) / RICHIE HAWTIN (CA) / RROSE (US) / SANFUENTES & MIJO (CL/MX) 失夢 (SHITSUYUME) (MX) / SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER (IR) / THE FIELD (SE) / µ-ZIQ (UK)
