Wagon Repair label co-founder Mathew Jonson has long been at the forefront of the Canadian scene with his moody, exquisitely layered compositions. The now Berlin-based Jonson has gone through the creation of some of last decade’s most inspiring electronic compositions. He debuted in 2001 with a 12” for Itiswhatitis ––the label that was in charge of propelling his career and that of Cobblestone Jazz (the trio made up of Jonson, Danuel Tate and Tyger Dhula), as well of that of Hrdvision (Jonson’s brother’s project). From then, his singles would multiply by respectable catalogues such as Minus, Perlon y Kompact, and then in Wagon Repair –label he co-founded nine years ago. In his music, he’s always left clear that one’s reach should exceed one’s grasp, and that expanding genre-borders (like house and techno towards jazz) can be extremely fortunate. This year we will witness a complex, emotive and melodic performance which was evident in Her Blurry Pictures, the album he released last year in Crosstown Rebels..
